Get to know me .
Hi I’m Vanessa (she/her) a Midwife born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, with over 7 years of experience working in one of the country’s busiest maternity hospitals.
I am a qualified FEDANT
registered antenatal and childbirth educator. I strongly believe that knowledge is liberation, therefore I’m passionate in making education accessible to everyone.
I’m also a doula, trained by the incredible birth activist and Founder of Abuela Doulas, Mars Lord.
It’s during my training that I deepened my knowledge of what it means to provide inclusive, cultural sensitive care.
As a Queer Black woman I deeply understand the importance of inclusive, affirming care that honours the full spectrum of our identities, bodies, and lived experiences.
My commitment to intersectionality is at the heart of everything I do, as our experiences are shaped by many overlapping factors, including race, gender, sexuality, class, and ability.
Body Owned Birth was created primarily, but not exclusively, with black and brown-bodied people in mind, centering those who have often been pushed to the margins of mainstream care.
I am dedicated to creating spaces where all people feel seen, respected, and supported in their unique journeys.
Outside of birth work, you’ll find me reading, watching movies, cuddling my cat, or getting lost in a good knitting project.
I’m always honoured and filled with joy to support incredible birthing people and be part of a vibrant, birth-positive community.
